‘12 Years a Slave,’ ‘American Hustle’ Lead Golden Globes Nominations

“12 Years a Slave” and “American Hustle” paced the nominations for 71st annual Golden Globes with a total of seven nominations each. Nabbing four Globe nominations were “Captain Phillips” and “Gravity.” The five best motion picture nominees, drama, went to “12 Years a Slave,” “Captain Phillips,” “Gravity,” “Philomena,” and “Rush.” Meanwhile, nominated for Best Motion Picture Comedy or Musical were “American Hustle, Her,” “Inside Llewyn Davis,” “Nebraska” and “The Wolf of Wall Street.” As an Oscar predictor, the Globes have been fairly unreliable in the past decade. However, as a tool to promote the nominated films to the general public, they are a powerhouse.
